EXPO: JULY 28-30

"Fall in Love Again ... With Your Home" is the theme of the 2nd annual Remodel It Right expo, featuring 100 exhibitor booths of contractors, suppliers and building-industry specialists and meet-the-experts discussions. Admission is $3 general, free for youngsters 11 and younger when accompanied by paying adult; a three-day pass is $4; $1 for those 55 and older on July 30.

The very first Hawaii Kai Family Fest features entertainment by The Surfaris (remember the 1960s hit "Wipe Out"?), below, and guests Kutmaster Spaz and slam poet Kua'ana Kekuewa. Other attractions include food, contests, prizes and keiki ID. Admission is free, and there's a free shuttle at the nearby Kiss 'n Ride lot. The festival is sponsored by New Hope Hawaii Kai.

The I Love Kalihi Festival is a daylong family event that includes crafts, new products, entertainment, bouncers and a new-car display. It's sponsored by the Kalihi Business Association. Admission is free.

Pack your bags because Band Camp IV is back in a big way with a lineup of Hoobastank, Hot Hot Heat, The Fray and Rock Kills the Kid. That means post-grunge to indie rock to alternative pop-rock. Band Camp, usually held at the Aloha Tower Marketplace, has a new venue this year. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $37.

THE ARTS: AUG. 12-13

The Honolulu Academy of Arts presents the 12th annual Showcase, a two-day art-filled event that features a preview sale the first day, with 15-minute artist talks and featured artists Yvonne Cheng, Rick Mills and Koi Ozu. Admission is free. The second day is the Showcase 2006 Food and Wine Extravaganza with an art sale, entertainment and wine tasting. Tickets are $85.

Get a head start on Christmas shopping this year at the 2006 Made in Hawaii Festival. All manner of Island-made products — art, fashions, crafts, jewelry, home furnishings and produce — will be showcased. Highlights include cooking demonstrations, food samples and local entertainment. Admission is $3 general and free for 6 and younger.

So it hasn't even been close to 10,000 days since rock band Tool, below, was last here in 2001 — it's been 1,700-plus days, in case you're counting, but the guys are finally coming back. The group, which first achieved fame through the album "Undertow," most recently released "10,000 Days," which spawned the hit single "Vicarious." Tickets are $68.50, and tickets are going fast.

Hula and Hawaiian music once again take the spotlight at the 29th annual Ho'ike presented by kumu Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, right, and his halau. Jerry Santos and friends, Sean Na'auao and Natalie Ai Kamau'u are among the scheduled performers in addition to the hula troupe. Tickets are $20.

Hey, haven't we seen these guys before? Yes, The All-American Rejects, below, last here in January, are heading our way again. After the band's self-titled debut disc in 2002, the indie-rock quartet from Oklahoma followed up with the chart-topping album "Move Along" — and the hot single "Dirty Little Secret" — in 2005. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $24 general and $50 VIP.
