This one's a no-brainer. "We've got some of the best beaches in the world, so beach activities are a natural part of life in Hawai'i," said John Clark, a retired Honolulu firefighter and author of books such as "Hawai'i's Best Beaches" and "Beaches of O'ahu."
Ten of Clark's favorite family-friendly spots on O'ahu:
Ala Moana Beach Park.
From Here to Eternity Beach, also known as Eternity Beach, Cockroach Bay, Queen's Pond and Halona Cove. The cove is between the Blowhole and an area known as Bamboo Ridge.
Kaupo Beach Park, also known as Keiki Pools. It's across the street from Sea Life Park.

Turtle Bay Resort, which has a designated swimming area open to the public.
Waimea Bay Beach Park.
The beach area in front of Hale'iwa Jodo Mission, at the west end of Hale'iwa Ali'i Beach Park.
Poka'i Bay Beach Park, on the Wai'anae Coast.
Ko Olina Resort & Marina, which has four lagoons open to the public.
White Plains Beach Park, near Kalaeloa (formerly Barbers Point). "To me, that's one of the best family beaches on the whole island," Clark said. "The reason I like it is it's got everything." This includes showers, restrooms, lifeguards, picnic areas, lots of sea shells for the keiki to collect, good surf conditions and parking, Clark said.
