TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Lost," 8 p.m., ABC. In a powerhouse episode last week, four survivors — Jack, Locke, Sawyer and Kate — finally saw "the others." One guy — big, scary, and rather articulate — met them face-to-face. The others stayed in the background, being menacing. Tonight, Locke suspects that Charlie still has some hidden drugs he's been using, after his vivid dreams make him think Clare's baby is in danger. Meanwhile, Hurley might have a love interest: He's drawn to Libby (Cynthia Watros), one of the survivors from the plane's tail section.

"The War That Made America" conclusion, 9 p.m., PBS. As the French and Indian War lingered, the stalemate began to crack. The French, with ongoing wars in Europe, couldn't get fresh troops to the New World. Meanwhile, the English finally got the knack of getting the Indians on their side. It was a long war on a continent that neither side understood. Afterward, the British continued to make mistakes, setting up the revolution that would start to crack their empire. This is an interesting story of an obscure fight, told with lots of vivid re-enactments and with no talking heads.

OF NOTE

"Veronica Mars," 4 p.m., UPN (KIKU). Lucy Lawless guests. She's investigating a kidnapping by Duncan and figures Veronica was involved.

"South Beach," 5 p.m., UPN (KIKU). Matt gets a visit from his dad, an addicted gambler. This is not good news.

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. It's the fourth night (and sixth hour) showing auditions.

"Jamie Foxx: Unpredictable," 7 p.m., NBC. Jamie Foxx has shown he can do it all, from comedy to music to last year's moving, Oscar-winning portrayal of Ray Charles. This special catches the music side — and has the misfortune of colliding with "Idol." Foxx performs at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles and has duets with Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Common and others.

"Bones," 8 p.m., Fox. Some body parts are difficult to identify because there's been so much cosmetic surgery.

"The Biggest Loser: Special Edition," 8 p.m., NBC. It must be difficult to own a restaurant and keep from gaining weight. Tonight's contest pits a family with an Italian restaurant in the Bronx against one with a diner in Peoria, Ill.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. A deathbed confession re-opens the case of a 12-year-old girl who was murdered a decade ago.

"Invasion," 9 p.m., ABC. Last week, we began to learn more about Sheriff Tom Underlay and his wife Mariel. Both are apparently hybrids, partly taken over by the outside creatures. She's fighting it. He's not. Indeed, he dumped off a load of weapons and ammunition, to be used by some scary young soldiers. Tonight, the story flashes between current times and a plane crash, nine years ago. Meanwhile, Larkin — the reporter married to Mariel's ex-husband — threatens to go public.
