Kahuku QB to play for Oregon State

Kahuku ran the ball four times more than it passed, but that didn't keep quarterback Kaulin Krebs from getting noticed.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound senior said yesterday he has verbally committed to play football at Oregon State.

Krebs was an O'ahu Interscholastic Association East second-team all-star.

"They came to see some of our other players and I think they noticed me, too," said Krebs, referring to teammates also being recruited by Oregon State.

With a strong running game, the state champion Red Raiders didn't have to throw much. But when Krebs did, he was just a effective as the running backs he handed the ball to. Krebs completed 38 of 64 passes for 680 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was intercepted once and averaged 10.6 yards per attempt.

"He was consistent," Kahuku coach Siuaki Livai said. "What people don't realize is we had the less turnovers than ever before."

Krebs took his recruiting visit over the weekend with teammates Suaesi Tuimanunei (defensive back) and twins Devin (tight end) and Kevin Unga (linebacker). Krebs said he might take a year off by grayshirting, or enrolling in classes later.

Krebs said he had no other college offers, but some Mountain West Conference schools did talk to him.

He is the fourth Hawai'i recruit to commit to OSU. Also committing to the Beavers are Damien defensive lineman Mike Sipili and Kamehameha linebacker Mana Lolotai and offensive lineman Ryan Pohl.
