The air-tight Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys basketball race is starting to be reflected in the final scores.

The two remaining undefeated teams tied for first place — Iolani and Kamehameha — each survived multiple-overtime scares last night to improve to 4-0. Iolani held off visiting Maryknoll, 50-44, in three overtimes and Kamehameha staved off Saint Louis, for a 63-59 road victory in double OT.

With 11 seconds remaining in regulation, it looked as if Kamehameha might fall from the unbeaten ranks. Saint Louis (2-2) led 44-42 and was at the line for two free throws.

But both shots missed, and Jacob Ho found an open lane just left of the free throw line and lofted a 12-foot shot that bounced off the front of the rim, hit the backboard lightly and fell through the net with five seconds left to send the game into overtime.

At the end of the first OT, Kamehameha's Kanoa Mokiao made a putback in the frantic final moments and initially it was ruled a basket which would have given the Warriors a 52-50 win. But after a conference by the three officials, the shot was ruled to be after the horn and the teams went into a second OT.

This time Kamehameha took control with a 7-1 run to lead 59-51, only to see the Crusaders rally again and close it to 62-59 on Scott Smith's layup with 1.5 ticks remaining.

Rykin Enos was then quickly fouled and finally sealed it with a free throw.

"We got that far, so we said we can't give up," said Ho, who finished with a team-high 17 points, including nine in the two overtimes. "As a team, we hit big shots and got big rebounds, and it was a good team win."

Saint Louis coach Delbert Tengan said his team "had a chance to close the deal in regulation," but liked the effort nonetheless.

"I thought both teams played very hard," Tengan said. "We just didn't play smart."

Warriors coach Jesse Nakanishi said the game typified this season's league parity.

"We knew it was going down to the wire," he said. "That's the ILH this year."

Kawika Shoji scored 13 points, Jon Takamura added 11 and the four-time defending state champion Raiders made 7 of 14 free throws in the third overtime to hold off the Spartans. The game was tied a 32-all after regulation, 36-all after the first extra period and 39-all after two OTs. Tyler Tsukazaki led the Spartans with 19 points.
