The state is addressing concerns about hazardous materials and derelict property on Waimano Ridge, Gov. Linda Lingle said in a letter to the Pearl City Neighborhood Board.
Board chairman Albert Fukushima on Tuesday said he had not received a response from Lingle to his Nov. 23 letter. However, Lingle had responded — her Dec. 29 letter was sent to the Neighborhood Commission office downtown. Fukushima said he had not picked up the mail because of an injury and the board was in recess.
Lingle's letter said the state found that "some of the materials shown in your photos belong to the various tenants of Waimano Ridge. The (Department of Health) will instruct the tenants to police their areas and properly dispose of any waste materials."
The state also will test contents of 55-gallon drums found in the area, Lingle said.
