Remember Art History 101, sitting in the dark watching slides of Greek kouroi and Goya's Saturn gobbling up his son? Relive those enlightening sessions at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' new Afternoon Movie and Art Talk, which kicks off today at 2:30 p.m. (9-to-5ers are out of luck). Wednesdays through Feb. 22, the academy screens a documentary related to art in the renovated Western Galleries, then a docent leads a discussion. Films progress chronologically, starting with "The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure" and ending with "Art of the Western World: Realism & Impressionism." Free. 532-8700.

After a seven-month redesign by New York architect Peter Marino, known for his luxe-boutique creations, the Chanel Ala Moana Center fashion and fine jewelry boutiques are open again — with lots of glass and steel.

At the relaunch party last week, guests walked a gauntlet of chiseled men in black suits, and in the window was a model draped in a velvet gown and diamond logo necklace worn by Nicole Kidman in a Chanel No. 5 ad.

Now on view in the new jewelry gallery, which is modeled after iconic company founder Coco Chanel's Paris apartment, is Chanel's diamond comet ring.
