QUICK BITES
New series of cooking classes starts Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Beginning Saturday, award-winning chef George "Chef Mavro" Mavrothalassitis invites aspiring Iron Chefs into his kitchen for a series of cooking classes. Hands-on participation alongside Mavrothalassitis and his culinary team is optional, but everyone will learn to prepare an appetizer, entree and dessert from the restaurant's new seasonal menu. The best part: eating the three-course lunch with wine pairings. Jan Yamagami and Jeanette Chu flew in from San Francisco last July to attend Mavrothalassitis' previous session. "The class was a fun way to experience cooking with one of the world's best chefs, said Yamagami.

Organized by Gourmet Cooking Hawaii, classes cost $165 each. Participants take home the recipes learned, a certificate of completion and a gourmet gift bag of local treats. Class dates: Saturday, March 25, June 24 and Sep. 24. Information: 735-7788, www.gourmetcookinghawaii.com.
