MGM Mirage's Project CityCenter will cost $2 billion more than originally anticipated, raising the cost of the planned urban village to $7 billion. CityCenter stands as the most expensive building endeavor in Las Vegas history. Construction on the main 4,000-room hotel is scheduled to begin in June or July; the entire project is expected to take 3 1/2 years.

FIRE 1: The Lady Luck was shuttered last week to facilitate a yearlong remodeling, which may or may not result in the casino reopening (it could become condos only). The Lady Luck had operated since 1964.

FIRE 2: Bourbon Street, the 26-year-old casino on East Flamingo, was demolished last week. The implosion — Las Vegas' second in as many months (the other was the Castaways) — took place midweek after midnight and was not announced to the public. The 8-acre site is to be incorporated into a Harrah's megaproject, which will be unveiled early this summer.
