A 32-year-old man was arrested last night in connection with the knife-point abduction of a woman yesterday afternoon in downtown Honolulu.

The man turned himself in at the Kailua police substation last night, police said. He faces charges of kidnapping and terroristic threatening.

The incident began shortly before 2 p.m. when an anonymous caller told police that a man had abducted a woman fronting 1088 Bishop St. The witness said the two had been arguing in a vehicle when the woman got out and walked away.

The man followed her, put a knife to her throat and forced her back to his car, police said. The man then drove away.

Police searched the area, but were unable to find the car. An all-points-bulletin was issued and police began an island-wide search.

Police were able to identify the suspect and last night a lawyer who said he represented the man told police that his client would turn himself in at the Kailua police substation. Several hours later, the man arrived at the station with the woman, police said.

The man was arrested without incident and was being held pending charges. The woman was not injured.

Police had said that the incident was the result of an apparent domestic dispute between the two.
