HPU takes two from Chico in baseball

Mario Ramirez pitched a five-hitter with three strikeouts, helping Hawai'i Pacific open its baseball season with a 3-1 victory over Cal State Chico at Hans L'Orange Park.
The Sea Warriors got just one hit in the second game, but managed to beat the Wildcats, 5-2. Kevin Matsumoto, Matt Burson and Michael Kealoha teamed on a five-hitter for HPU, which scored four runs in the seventh to overcome a 2-1 deficit.
Kealoha drove in two runs and Adam Arakawa scored twice for HPU in the opener.
KANSAS ROUTS UHH
Matt Baty, Jared Schweitzer and Gus Milner each had three hits as Kansas defeated host Hawai'i-Hilo, 11-1, last night in a non-conference opener for both teams.
Baty doubled and drove in three runs, and Schweitzer and Milner both homered to power the Jayhawks.
Kodiak Quick spaced six hits over seven innings to earn the victory.
Matt Haasenritter batted 2 for 3 to lead Hilo.
VOLLEYBALL
JAMMERS' CLINIC
Jammers' Volleyball Club coach Debby Yee will conduct a clinic focusing on passing and serving Saturday at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Kane'ohe.
Players 11 and younger (as of last September) will participate from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; older kids from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost is $25.
