BROADWAY BOUND?: Barry Flanagan of Hapa is back from a New York-New Jersey visit and continues to do research for "Koa, the Polynesian Journey," a work in progress destined for a Broadway run in 2012. Yep, that's quite a ways out yet. The production will feature original Hapa music. In the meantime, Flanagan is lapping up books on the Tokelau culture. ...

While in The Big Apple, Flanagan dined at Bar Pitti, the see-and-be-seen Italian spot in the West Village. He enjoyed the rigatoni Pitti (the house signature) while reading. As he turned to ask for his check, he came face to face with Kenny Loggins, who helped to give Hapa's first CD wings in 1993 by singing on it. Loggins was on a breather from his East Coast Christmas tour. "Only you would be sitting in Greenwich Village reading a Polynesian book," Loggins told Flanagan. Loggins' party included film and theater actress Brooke Adams ("Days of Heaven," "The Heidi Chronicles"). Flanagan has started rehearsals with Hapa partner Nathan Aweau to open Bonnie Raitt's Jan. 6 and 7 concerts in Honolulu and on Maui. ...

Hapa had a nice turnout for its CD-DVD launch at Chai's Island Bistro in late November. ...

Jason Scott Lee descended on Daren Kimura's Kapahulu Kafe, enjoying a bowl of 'awa. Barry Flanagan popped in to enjoy the new 'awa bar (formerly Hale Noa), where ki ho'alu artists Steve Inglis and Michael Tanebaum regularly perform. Paula Fuga made a guest appearance; The Girlas, Leimomi, Nakana and Imua Garza frequently share their music there, too. ...

Aly Wagner, the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team star, married ex-soccer pro Adam Eyre at the Mauna Lani on the Big Island. A party of 36 attended. ...

And in upcountry Maui recently, Maui Visitors Bureau publicist Keli'i Brown and partner Jim Crowell exchanged vows before 100 friends and family members. Charles Ka'upu, kumu hula and chanter, conducted a lighthearted, special ceremony at St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokea. A poem by 'Okalani Ganeau-Brown, 11, for and about her "two uncles," and "Amazing Grace" rendered by the graceful and amazing Emma Veary, were memorable. The reception, at Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm, featured grinds by Tom Muromoto, exec chef at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel, and Ocean Vodka martinis were a hit. Kawika Trask, Keao Costa (from Na Palapalai) and Weldon Kekauoha performed. ...

THE PEOPLE: Knapp and Yap on Tap, a duo featuring Terence Knapp and Donald Yap (who are marking the silver anniversary of their partnership in song), are doing a benefit at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Our Lady of Peace Cathedral. The holiday program will embrace traditional carols, and has the blessings of Bishop Larry Silva. Proceeds will go to the church, with donations accepted at the door. Knapp and Yap on Tap generally do vintage classics by Harry Warren, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Rodgers & Hart — practically at the drop of a hat. ...

Shawna Masuda will be the narrator, Ethan Okura will be Joseph and Keoki Kerr will play the Pharaoh in Army Community Theatre's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," starting Feb. 22 at Richardson Theatre. Director Vanita Rae Smith cast Ian Weir, 14, as Benjamin; he's the brother of Channing Weir, who just played the title role in "Annie." Channing, 12, is still on a roll — she'll be the Cat in the Hat in "Seussical," which Megan Olson will present in Kapolei next spring. Both Weirs also will be in an "Aladdin" production in the near future. ...
