First-rate musician Greg Sardinha continues his love affair with the steel guitar on the fourth installment of "Hawaiian Steel."

An Arizona-based ki ho'alu artist hops onto the slack-key bandwagon.

And it's Pati time, so gear up for his contagious harmonies and vibes.

"HAWAIIAN STEEL VOL. 4" BY GREG SARDINHA; KEALA RECORDS

  • Genre: Steel guitar instrumentals.

  • Distinguishing notes: Sardinha has emerged as a driving force of the steel genre.

Here, he puts his own spin on some familiar faves that don't usually get the instrumental treatment, such as "Ka Nohona Pili Kai," "Honolulu City Lights," "Maka Hilahila," "Ka Makani Ka'ili Aloha," "Koke'e" and "Moon of Manakoora." The steel artistry is embellished with guest musicians such as Chino Montero, Mike Kaawa, Ben Vegas, Randy Aloya — and the result is a winning canopy of sound that flashes back to bygone days. His lone composition is from the Internet radio show, "Territorial Airwaves Theme Song."

  • Our take: Like Superman, Sardinha is a Man of Steel.

"CUT ME SOME SLACK " BY MOON KAHELE; AZ DIGITAL SOUND

  • Genre: Ki ho'alu instrumentals and vocals.

  • Distinguishing notes: Dana "Moon" Kahele has done some club work here but is based in what he calls "the island of Arizona awaiting my Hawaiian homestead lottery number to be called." In the interim, he's capitalized on the keen interest in Hawaiian slack key on the Mainland. And while the CD falls short in execution (no songwriting credits, no catalogue number, for starters), his heart, his fingers, his soul are in the right place, producing some stellar strokes and notes with such atmospheric titles as "Hoku's Lullaby," "Aloha E Plumeria," "Nightseeing," "Nahenahe Medley" and "Jus' La Dat," which speak volumes about the Islands he doesn't call home — for now. He acknowledges inspiration from masters such as Leonard Kwan, Sonny Chillingworth and Ledward Ka'apana, and the devotion translates beautifully in his precise guitarmanship. Very nahenahe.

  • Our take: This Moon should shine brightly, with some airplay support.

    "REDEMPTION" BY PATI; VIZZUN ENTERTAINMENT

  • Genre: Island rhythms, reggae.

  • Distinguishing notes: Pati (aka Patrick Soi) is a prolific singer-composer and musical chameleon who fancies the reggae beat and knows when to get a little bit of help from his friends.

This outing is a crisp reflection of his talent and savvy, with a title song he wrote that's dance-floor appropriate, an unlikely and surprisingly fluid ballad-with-a-beat reading of Lionel Richie's "Easy" and a cover of "Drift Away," and love-with-a-side-of-momentum tunes such as "I Wanna Love You Tonight," on which Rawsun is featured. O-shen guests on an explosive "Da Mix" and a bonus track, "No Look My Lady" taps Sudden Rush, B.E.T., Ras Simeon and New Flavor. Tight harmonies, splendid studio work all help yield a crisp sound and emotional wattage to spare.

  • Our take: Pati's vibes can make and shape your party-time soundscape.
