Escapee caught at bus stop by LCC

State sheriff's deputies yesterday arrested an escapee from the Waiawa Correctional Facility at a bus stop near Leeward Community College without incident.
State Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Louise Kim McCoy said an anonymous tip led to the arrest of Robert Menor, 36, who is serving time for forgery. Menor escaped from Waiawa yesterday between 8:40 and 9:45 a.m., McCoy said.

850 CUSTOMERS LOSE ELECTRICITY
About 850 power customers had no electricity for six hours yesterday after a truck knocked down a utility pole near the Waimanalo Wastewater Treatment Plant at 10:22 a.m.
Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman Jose Dizon said power was gradually restored to customers beginning at 1 p.m. and that everyone was back online at 4:22 p.m.

LOST HIKER CALLS FOR HELP, RESCUED
Fire rescue specialists located a lost hiker last night at 7 in Haha'ione Valley and guided him out on foot.
Fire department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada said the man called for help on a cell phone about 6:15 p.m. The hiker started out in Kuli'ou'ou Valley. He was located at 7 p.m. as firefighters maintained phone contact with him.
The hiker was not injured, Tejada said.
Fire Rescue 1, HFD's helicopter and a company from the Wailupe station also looked for the hiker's companion, who was later found safe at his hotel room, Tejada said.

ROBBERS GRAB RESTAURANT CASH
The manager of the Flamingo restaurant at Windward City Shopping Center was robbed Monday night by two men who allegedly hid inside the restaurant until it closed.
The manager, 63, said one man pushed her off a chair and another covered her mouth and tied her hands with duct tape. The men fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and were still at large last night.
The robbery was reported at 10:50 p.m. No injuries were reported.

COUNTY FINANCE CHIEF RESIGNING
Michael Tressler is stepping down as Kaua'i County's finance director at the end of the year to pursue other career opportunities. "A lot was accomplished during his tenure, including the launching of several online services" such as bill payment, Mayor Bryan Baptiste said of Tressler.

19-YEAR-OLD FACES SEX-ASSAULT COUNTS
A 19-year-old man was arrested yesterday and charged with three counts of third-degree sexual assault and kidnapping.
Michael Murdock, who has no permanent local address, was being held in lieu of $175,000 bail. The alleged attacks involving a juvenile occurred in 2005 between June 6 and July 22 in Wahiawa.
