TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"King of Queens" season opener, 7 and 7:30 p.m., CBS. Here's a dizzying change of pace: To rest the intense "Jericho" until February, CBS inserts this middle-of-the-road comedy. Don't expect post-nuclear angst. In the first episode, Doug (Kevin James) buys an ice cream truck; in the second, he gets calls from a woman who may have romanced some other Doug Heffernan.

"Wicked Wicked Games" debut, 7 p.m., MyNetworkTV (KFVE). Blythe is a wealthy widow with two handsome sons — a doctor and a scoundrel. She has it all; naturally, she's bitter and resentful. She plans revenge against the guy who once jilted her. Her sons will marry his daughters and ... This is absurd, of course, but Blythe is played by Tatum O'Neal. In "Rescue Me," O'Neal proved she's great at crazed obsession. With O'Neal sometimes talking to the camera, we're pulled in. This is one of two new, 65-night telenovelas. They have odd plots, wild coincidences, beautiful people and, occasionally, actual acting talent.

OF NOTE

"The Biggest Loser," 7 and 8 p.m., NBC. In the first hour, Matt Hoover — the second winner in this weight-loss reality show — talks to school kids. In the second, we learn who will be the final four.

"White House Christmas 2006," 8 p.m., HGTV. Each year, this documentary says, 45,000 people view the White House during the holidays. That requires a major effort to decorate almost two dozen trees, while keeping the theme secret.

"Dirty Dancing" debut, 8 p.m., WE. In the spirit of the 1987 movie, this reality series has women working with male dance instructors, in a secluded camp. This starts with 18 women and six men; Cris Judd — a dancer, a choreographer one of Jennifer Lopez's ex-husbands — hosts.

"Day Break," 8 p.m., ABC. As Hopper's awful day keeps repeating, he grasps for a solution. Tonight, his goal is to get the murder book out of the evidence room.

"Primetime: Basic Instincts" debut, 9 p.m., ABC. This starts a five-week series viewing instinctive behavior. The opener uses a hidden camera to see how people react to loud cell-phone conversations, wild kids in a restaurant, etc.

"Medium," 9 p.m., NBC. Maybe we should take a camcorder off our gift list. After Allison gets one for her husband it shows images of a past or future murder.
