Shawna Masuda will play Millie Dillmount, the title character, in the Hawai'i premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie," debuting Sept. 22 at Diamond Head Theatre. Her triumphs include DHT's "Beauty and the Beast" and Army Community Theatre's "Miss Saigon" and "Cats." ...
Some familiar faces (plus a few fresh ones) dot the "Oklahoma!" landscape premiering Oct. 13 at Paliku Theatre, Windward Community College. Michael Bright will be Curly, Ashley Warling is Laurey, Steve Wagenseller is Jud Fry, Danielle Yamamoto is Ado Annie, Scott Wallace is Ali Hakim and Tony Young is Will. Ronald Bright directs. Dad Ron didn't know son Michael was auditioning — until he showed up. "We even put him through the callback process," said the director. Michael was in a national tour of "Miss Saigon." ...
NIGHT LIFE: Lanai, the KDNN-FM (98.5) deejay, has been living the rock-star life. He hung out with Tool singer Maynard James Keenan — "because my cousin, Tim Cadiente, is the group's official photographer," said Lanai. The pair were dining at Sushi Sasabune when in walked Kirk Hammett of Metallica (the sometime Hawai'i resident got up on stage at Tool's Friday show). On another night, Keenan and Lanai dined at Hiroshi's, where the rocker (who owns a vineyard in Arizona) hit it off with wine whiz Chuck Furuya. ...
"The Sustainable Mind, an Evening with Edgy Lee," from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Halekulani hotel, is part of the resort's Halekulani Living Masterworks series. Lee, a prolific filmmaker, will shed light on her career and her vision, and show excerpts of her films. Interactive discussion is encouraged. Cost is $45, including wine and pupu. Call 931-5005. ...

TRADE WINDS: An Aloha Airlines 737 turns in a best supporting performance as a 747 jumbo jet in the slithering movie "Snakes on a Plane!" Real-life Aloha mechanics Karl Wilhelm and Andy Vo (backs and shoulders to the cameras) were part of a scene shot last Aug. 27 involving a stack of floral boxes being loaded onto a cargo conveyor belt. ...
