Dress like a rock star, eat and drink like one

Elvis, Billy Idol, The Clash? Dress as your favorite rock star and eat gourmet food when Maui chefs host Rock-n-Roll Wok of Fame at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa on Ka'anapali Beach. Island chefs present about 30 fancy dishes to benefit the Maui chefs scholarship fund for the Maui Culinary Academy. On the menu: coriander-crusted prawns with red-hot chili-pepper jelly; jicama slaw; a psychedelic '60s seafood stew; and, of course, rock lobster. Also: wines and spirits and a martini ice sculpture for the debut of Maui's Ocean Vodka.

Guests may come as their music icons to blend in with Maui Theatre designer Caro Walker's scenes from rock history. Music by Jimmy Mac & The Kool Kats.

TASTE AT KAPOLEI

KO OLINA EVENT BENEFITS STUDENTS

Na Hoku winner Henry Kapono headlines Taste at Kapolei, the annual food fest at Ko Olina Resort that benefits leeward O'ahu students. The oceanfront event invites restaurants to prepare favorite dishes, with beer and wine stations, live entertainment, a country market and a fireworks finale.

"To date, the event has raised more than $500,000 for scholarships, educational programs and grants," said event chief Keola Lloyd of the Campbell Estate.

Among the participating restaurants: Big City Diner, Chili's Grill & Bar, Compadres Bar & Grill, Da Spot, Dave & Buster's, Don Ho's Island Grill, Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant, Hana Sushi, Hapa Grill and Shanghai Bistro.
