Have a Christmas memory or cultural family tradition that you're willing to share for possible inclusion in a Honolulu Theatre for Youth December production?
HTY is seeking submissions for its annual holiday show, "Christmas Talk Story 2006." The works are staged by a company of actors and augmented by live music.
The tales, by turns poignant and hilarious, are authored by a range of writers, including professionals in the Islands.
Your anecdote could make the cut.
Monologues or scenes with family and holiday themes are being accepted through Monday. Entries should link to holidays and cultural celebrations, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Hanuk-kah or Kwanzaa.
The submission should be shaped in a narrative format that can be theatrically mounted. The tone may be personal, active, comedic or serious, and the vignette ultimately should have some dynamics.
Monologues should be no more than three pages long, typed and double-spaced.
Scenes should be five pages or less, with a maximum of three characters.
HTY will pay $100 for each story submitted; rights remain with the author. If selected, the stories will be amplified and mounted for stage-appropriate dynamics, for production at Tenney Theatre, on the grounds of St. Andrew's Ca-thedral. Up to 10,000 children, teachers and family audiences will likely see the production during its holiday run.
Submissions may be mailed to: Eric Johnson, Honolulu Theatre for Youth, 229 Queen Emma Square, Honolulu, HI 96819; or sent to htyeric@gmail.com.
