Neighbors in Ala Moana, Kalihi Valley and 'Ewa will kick off an effort tomorrow to recruit help for the two-year-long Neighborhood Kokua Project. What's a neighbor to do? Well, there's the Hoala Makiki Stream project, cleaning in and around the stream at the King Street and Kalakaua Avenue intersection. Out Kalihi way, the project, linked with the Kuhio Community Coalition, is painting over graffiti and patrolling the area afterward. But you need to get up early to be a good neighbor: Tomorrow's projects begin at 8:30 a.m. and run to 11 a.m. Information: Reina Miyamoto, 223-5171.

"Surfing" includes more than 200 images from Hawai'i's surfing history — most have never been published before.
