Sakamoto, Fukuda win North Shore swim event

Noa Sakamoto and Lynnette Fukuda won the open divisions yesterday of the Surf 'n Sea North Shore Challenge, a 2.4-mile swim from 'Ehukai Beach to Waimea Bay.
Sakamoto, a 2004 Punahou School graduate and Stanford University junior, finished in 40 minutes, 36 seconds for his third victory in the four-race North Shore Swim Series. Dustin Fukuda finished second in 41:13 and Kalen Darling took third in 41:27.
Sakamoto also won the 1-mile Raging Isle Sprint on June 24 and the 2,000-meter Cholo's Waimea Bay 2000 on July 22.
Fukuda, a 2006 Mililani High graduate, finished yesterday's race in 45:34. She was followed by Nicole Hagi (46:00) and Karen Finnerty (46:41).
SUN FINISHES FOURTH
Stanford University senior Hongzhe Sun, a 2003 Iolani School graduate, placed fourth in the men's 200-meter backstroke yesterday at the U.S. Summer Nationals in Irvine, Calif.
Sun finished in 2 minutes and 0.59 seconds.
Aaron Peirsol won in 1:56.36, followed by Michael Phelps (1:57.09) and Ryan Lochte (1:58.13).
TENNIS
DOUBLES POSTPONED
The final of the 36th Blue Moon Men's Night Doubles last night between Minh Le and Wei-Yu Su, and Mikael Maatta and Jan Axel Tribler was postponed until today because of rain at the Kailua Racquet Club.
The start of the match was delayed for 45 minutes. Play began at about 8:20, but another downpour halted things for good at 1-1 in the first set.
The match will be continued at that point today at 2 p.m.
Both teams are seeking their first Night Doubles title.
YOUTH SOFTBALL
HOLOMUA OUSTED
Southern Cal Crunch eliminated Holomua, 5-3, yesterday at the ASA 12-under A Division Western Nationals at Sunnyville, Calif.
Leisha Aliialii had three hits, including a double and home run, and Kahea Taniguchi had three hits, including a double, for Holomua.
