Details of the new megaresort that may replace the New Frontier have been revealed. The name would be Montreux, after the so-called Swiss Riviera area that is home to the Montreux Jazz Festival. The $2 billion resort would have 2,750 rooms and a giant Ferris wheel. Plans include bringing the jazz festival to Las Vegas on an annual basis. The New Frontier would be razed and, if the plans go ahead, the Montreux would open in 2010.

BIG PARTY: Opening night at the Red Rock Resort might have been the biggest casino-opening party in Las Vegas history. Some 3,800 invited guests were treated to free food, unlimited Dom Perignon, a concert at the pool by rocker Sting and a fireworks display. The resort, 12 miles west of the Strip, is getting rave reviews.

MANY MORE: The Las Vegas visitor count for 2005 was 38.6 million — up 3.2 percent over 2004. Of those, 32,400,523 were tourists, and 6,166,194 were convention delegates, an 84 percent/16 percent split.

PRIME TIME: Las Vegas' best prime-rib deal, at downtown's California casino, is the same—a good cut of prime rib, potato, vegetable, all-you-can-eat salad bar and cherries jubilee, for $6.99 — but the serving time has been extended by one hour. This special is now daily from to 5 to 11 p.m.
