Woman critical after H-1 collision

An unidentified woman was critically injured yesterday morning in a collision on H-1 Freeway.

Police said the woman's Volkswagen Jetta ran into a Ford Expedition driven by an 'Ewa Beach woman at 7:10 a.m., just west of the Manager's Drive overpass. Both cars were heading west.

The Jetta hit the embankment on the right side of the freeway, then ran into a utility pole.

The woman in the Jetta was thrown from her car. She was taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

The other driver escaped serious injury.


MOTORCYCLIST HURT IN KALAELOA CRASH

A 26-year-old Hickam man was critically injured Friday after he lost control of the motorcycle he was driving and went off the road in Kalaeloa.

At 5:15 p.m. Friday the man was driving a blue, 2002 Yamaha R1 motorcycle at a high rate of speed on Coral Sea Road in Kalaeloa, police said. He lost control of the motorcycle on a slight curve in the road and ran into a concrete barrier.

The man was thrown off the motorcycle and landed in the road's grassy shoulder. He suffered head and other injuries, police said, and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. He was wearing a helmet.

Speed was a factor but it was not known if alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash. The man lives on Hickam Air Force base but it was unclear if he is in the Air Force, police said.


SUSPECT SOUGHT IN MILILANI ROBBERY

Police were looking for a man who yesterday robbed the Mililani branch of the Hawai'i Federal Credit Union.

The man, described as 5 feet 10 and weighing 280 pounds, was last seen running away from the credit union toward a church.


BIG ISLAND SCHOOL BURGLARIZED TWICE

Big Island police are asking for the public's help in identifying the person or persons responsible for two burglaries at Waimea School.

The first burglary occurred sometime between the night of April 7 and the morning of April 9. The burglars went into a portable classroom and took a silver GoVideo DVD/VCR player, an E-machine computer with flat screen monitor and other items.

The second burglary occurred sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning. The burglars again went into a portable classroom and took a 27-inch Sharp color television, a silver GoVideo DVD/VCR player, an E-machine computer with flat screen monitor, four computer speakers and a Lahaina koa wood four-string ukulele.

BOY, 15, ROBBED AT DOWNTOWN FIELD

Police are looking for a man in his 20s who robbed a 15-year-old boy Friday.

The boy was walking home through a downtown Honolulu baseball field at 7:50 p.m. when the man approached him and demanded money, police said. The boy refused and the man punched him in the face, then took the boy's wallet and MP3 player from his pocket.

The man is wanted on suspicion of robbery.


SUSPECT HELD IN ROBBERY, ASSAULT

A Makiki man, 28, was arrested Friday after he allegedly beat his girlfriend and stole her ATM card, police said.

At 9 p.m. Thursday, the man allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, 28, and forced her to give him her ATM card and PIN.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of robbery and abuse of a household member.
