HONORS
EX-UH HOOPS PLAYER IN WASH. HALL OF FAME
Former Rainbow Wahine basketball player Tondi Redden von Oelhoffen will be inducted into the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 2006 Hall of Fame Wednesday at the Yakima Convention Center.
Redden played for Hawai'i from 1986 to '90. In her last two years, she started on NCAA Tournament teams. The 'Bows got their only NCAA Tournament win when she was a senior, defeating Montana at Missoula to advance to the second round.
Redden, from Kennewick, Wash., is third in career steals at UH, behind Nani Cockett and BJ Itoman. She still holds the season record for steals, with 98 — more than three a game — in her final year. She had 11 — still a school record — in a 1989 game at UC Santa Barbara.
She was the first Kamiakin High School athlete to earn 12 varsity letters, excelling in volleyball, basketball, track and field. Her team won the 1985 state basketball title, with Redden as MVP.
Mark Rypien, MVP of the 1992 Super Bowl, is also among the four athletes being honored Wednesday. Redden is married to 12-year NFL veteran Kimo von Oelhoffen.
