SOUTH POINT CLEANUP — Join a marine debris cleanup Saturday at South Point on the Big Island. Meet at 8 a.m. at Wai'ohinu Park for shuttles; bring hat, sturdy footwear, sunscreen and lunch; transportation, water, refreshments, toilets and gloves provided. Reserve a seat: (808) 756-1808.
EARTH DAY PROJECTS — The Windward Ahupua'a Alliance has four volunteer projects from 8:30-11:45 a.m. Saturday during the Earth Day 2006 Celebration at Kawai Nui Marsh: Kapa'a Quarry Road cleanup; heavy clearing of state land at Mokapu end of quarry road; landscaping of Kawai Nui Wayside Park; and Hawai'i Foodbank donation drop-off site and HI 5¢ container collection. Truck drivers, chainsaw operators and hospitality tent workers also needed. Check-in at 7:30 a.m.; safety briefings and cultural protocols announced at 8:15 a.m. Closed-toe shoes required; bring sunscreen, hat and long-sleeve shirt. REEF AWARENESS — The 6th Annual Coral Reef Awareness Day will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Kahalu'u Beach Park in Kona, with educational activities about marine life. Sponsors are University of Hawai'i Sea Grant, Jack's Diving Locker, Girl Scout Council of Hawai'i, Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, Red Sail Sports and Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort.
