ESPN2 will feature Kahuku football

Kahuku High School's state championship football program will be the subject of ESPN2's documentary show "Timeless," at 7 p.m., Hawai'i time, tomorrow.
A crew from the all-sports cable network spent over a week on O'ahu last fall chronicling the Red Raiders' march to their fourth state title in the past six seasons. They filmed Kahuku's practices, its state semifinal victory over Wai'anae, the state championship win over Punahou and spent Thanksgiving Day at some of the players' homes.
On its Web site, ESPN describes "Timeless" as a 30-minute show that "highlight(s) towns and communities with unique sports stories all their own."
In November of 2004, a picture of Kahuku's football team performing its traditional "haka" dance and chant appeared on the cover of USA Today, along with a feature story about Hawai'i high school football.
SUMMER FOOTBALL
KALAHEO WILL HOST 7-ON-7 PASS TOURNAMENT IN JUNE
Kalaheo will play host to a 7-on-7 varsity "pass" football tournament from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 14, 15 and 16 at Kailua District Park.
Six teams — 'Aiea, Kaiser, Kalaheo, Kealakehe, Pac-Five and Waialua — already have made commitments to participate, and there is room for two more teams.
The tournament will be played under "pass league" rules, and the format has teams playing a round-robin before a single-elimination playoff and a championship game.
"It's a chance to get some competition in during the offseason," said Kalaheo coach Chris Mellor. "It'll be a little more disciplined, a little more formal (than typical pass league games)."
The entry fee is $125 per team.
Coaches interested in entering their teams may send an e-mail to kalaheofootball@yahoo.com or call 497-8400.
