Brian Ching, a Houston Dynamo forward from Hale'iwa, was named the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for the first week of the season.
Ching, a 1996 Kamehameha graduate, scored four goals in a 5-2 win over the Colorado Rapids Sunday. It was the ninth time in MLS history that a player scored at least four goals in one game.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected every week throughout the regular season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA).
