Santa Barbara roughs up Hawai'i-Hilo, 22-6

Shane Carlson batted 5 for 7 and Brian Lee hit a grand slam as UC Santa Barbara trounced host Hawai'i-Hilo, 22-6, yesterday in a non-conference baseball game at Wong Stadium.
Chris Valaika batted 4 for 5, including a solo homer, and Matt Emerick added four RBIs for the Gauchos (13-12), who pounded six Hilo pitchers for 23 hits.
Chris McMurray also homered for UCSB, which broke open the game with a five-run second that made it 11-2.
A.J. Satele and Kyler Wartman each had two hits for Hilo (10-23).
HPU FALLS IN 10TH
Vince Maughan hit an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th as Saint Martin's rallied past Hawai'i Pacific, 5-4, yesterday in a non-conference game at Lacey, Wash.
Saint Martin's (8-14), which trailed 4-0 after four innings, scored a run in the ninth to send the game into extra innings tied at 4.
Brandon Sato batted 2 for 4, and Danny Lee and Ryson Mauricio drove in runs for the Sea Warriors (20-16).
HPU starter Kevin Matsumoto had a three-hit shutout through five innings before giving up two runs in the sixth.
VOLLEYBALL
TEAM USA DROPS TWO
Teams from the Mama San Volleyball Federation, one of the largest sports associations in Japan, beat Team USA squads Thursday night at Farrington High gym.
Ikuno Sky Club of Osaka beat Team USA Blue, 21-12, 21-14, and KVC of Tokyo topped Team USA Blue, 21-19, 21-19.
The USA squads included several former University of Hawai'i players, including Lisa Strand-Ma'a and Aven Lee.
LAMBERT, METZGER WIN
Top-seeded Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger, both Punahou Schools graduates, swept three opponents yesterday at the AVP Cuervo Gold Crown in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Lambert and Metzger will meet Dain Blanton and Eric Fonoimoana this morning, with the winners advancing to the semifinals.

UH BEATS BYU
Ryan Sceats defeated Ivan Kokurin, 6-3, 7-5, to lead host Hawai'i to a 4-3 victory over Brigham Young yesterday in a non-conference match.
The Rainbow Warriors (9-4) won their sixth in a row.
