The Honolulu Academy of Arts found the juror for its "Artists of Hawai'i 2006" show in Australia. Edmund Capon, longtime director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, will review the works.

Capon is a specialist in Chinese art and a former assistant keeper of the Far Eastern section at London's Victoria & Albert Museum. He was exhibition curator and a manager of a contemporary-art gallery in London and has a wide-ranging background from which to draw.

The choice is a big change from last year's juror, Miami gallery owner Bernice Steinbaum.

Capon will review all submissions in slide or digital form. The works on his short list will be assembled at the academy, and Capon will choose the finalists during his two-day jurying process.

"Artists of Hawai'i 2006 will run June 23 through July 30. On June 4 at the Doris Duke Theatre, Capon will give a free lecture titled "The Most Famous Portrait Prize in the World," about Australia's Archibald Prize, which he has curated.
