6,000 expected for Niketown 5K

Advertiser Staff

Sunday's sixth annual Niketown 5K has reached its entry limit of 6,000, race organizers said.

The 3.1-mile run through Waikiki raises money for physical education and playground equipment for O'ahu's schools. Runners designate their entry fee to the school of their choice.

Race organizers said the run has raised $270,000 for 242 O'ahu's schools in the past five years, and the event has expanded with runs in Las Vegas, Denver, Atlanta and Miami.

A NikeGo 1-mile run/walk also will be held around Fort DeRussy Park.

The Niketown 5K begins at 7 a.m. in front of the Niketown store in Waikiki.
