One dead, five injured in Kona collision

One person was killed and five others injured in a two-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon in Kona on the Big Island.
The accident was reported at about 2:40 p.m. on Kealakehe Parkway, about a half-mile mauka of Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway. The accident involved a pickup truck and a small sedan, according to fire officials.
The dead person was found several yards from the wreckage, having suffered head injuries, fire officials said. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man was found pinned under the pickup truck and had to be pulled out by fire crews. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where his condition was not available last night.
Three other people were taken to Kona Community Hospital and another person went to the hospital in a private vehicle. Their conditions also were not available last night.
