Flavia Brakling hammered 15 kills and hit .520 as Hawai'i Pacific swept Notre Dame de Namur, 30-11, 30-14, 30-12, last night in a women's volleyball match at the St. Andrew's Priory gym.
Danie Hout and Barbara Martin added nine kills apiece for the Sea Warriors (10-1), who hit .564 led by Martin's .818.
Sarah Perry led Notre Dame de Namur (4-12) with six kills.
Elsewhere, Rose Ramsey had 16 kills and Taina Savage contributed 14 kills and 12 digs, lifting the Hawai'i-Hilo to a 30-17, 30-21, 19-30, 30-23 victory over Grand Canyon University at Phoenix.
Cori Sutter added 12 kills and Kahealani Silva 18 digs for Hilo (8-3).
Sonia Morales-Jones and Emily Thomson each had seven kills for Grand Canyon (5-10).
GOLF
SENIORS OPEN PLAY
Kula's Rose Pagan led the Hawai'i qualifiers after a partial first round of the USGA Senior Women's Amateur yesterday at the Apawamis Club in Rye, N.Y.
Pagan shot 13-over-par 85. The leader among the 66 who finished the rain-delayed first round is Karen Richardson of Massachusetts, who shot 74.
Seven-time USGA champion Carol Semple Thompson was 2-under through 16 when play was halted. She has won this tournament four times.
Wahiawa's Bev Kim shot 87 and Honolulu's Lily Yao 94.
Kailua's Gary Haynie opened with a 7-over 79 and is tied for 108th at the USGA Senior Amateur Championship for men. It is being played at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.
Billy Clagett, from Austin, Texas, leads at 6-under 66.
Two share Cup lead
Shannon Tanoue and Troy Higashiyama each shot 1-under-par 69 to share the lead after the first round of the 2005 Mayor's Cup at Ala Wai Golf Course.
Steve Yogi, Shigeru Kashiwatani, Norman Inouye and Tadd Fujikawa are tied for third with 70 entering today's final round.
Ronald Ching and John Mun are tied for the lead in A flight with 72, and Hayley Young and Jaclyn Hilea share the ladies' flight lead with 75.
VOLLEYBALL CLINICS
ON THE BEACH
Two free beach volleyball clinics for girls and boys will be presented by AVP pros in conjunction with their season-closing AVP Paul Mitchell Best of the Beach event, Oct. 1 and 2 at Queens Beach. Both clinics will be Sept. 30, the first from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and the second from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Stein Metzger and partner Jake Gibb will play Scott Wong and Mark Williams in the opening match of Best of the Beach on Oct. 1. Metzger and Wong are Punahou graduates.
Metzger and Gibb won the season-long series, and had four victories during the year, to clinch their spot in Hawai'i. Wong beat out his brother, Kevin, for the eighth and final spot. Less than 100 points separated their teams during the season. They played seven matches, with younger brother Scott winning four.
IN THE GYM
The Jammers club is offering week-long clinics, beginning the next two Mondays (Sept. 19 and 26). Cost is $60 per week, with clinics from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
