Help Chaminade University of Honolulu kick off its 50th anniversary today at an opening celebration and reception. The free event begins with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 4 p.m. at Mamiya Theatre, followed by a reception and campus festivities from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Highlights include an appearance by two members of the first graduating class (they've been asked to lead the procession), a trolley tour of the Kaimuki campus, entertainment and a historical photo exhibit with an extensive collection of glass plate photos in Sullivan Library. Free valet and self-parking will be available on campus.
Chaminade University, founded in 1955 with 30 students in its first class, has grown into an institution with more than 2,000 students today.
