TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Threshold" debut, 8 p.m., CBS. Something nasty is happening in the middle of the Atlantic. Sailors die or seem possessed. A fine cast make up a team assembled to investigate. Carla Gugino brings the same smoldering intelligence she brought to "Karen Sisco." Peter Dinklage, who drew a buzz in "The Station Agent," plays a mathematician; Brent Spiner (Data on "Star Trek: The Next Generation") is a microbiologist. It's a sharply written and directed story. The result is creepy and compelling.
OF NOTE
"Danny Phantom: The Ultimate Enemy," 5 p.m., Nickelodeon. This cartoon character finds himself trying to go to school and fight evil. He cuts corners, cheats on a test — and then is confronted with his own dark side.
"Terror in the Family" (1996), 6 p.m., Lifetime. A fairly good TV movie about an abusive teen, with a seething performance by Hilary Swank.
"Movies That Shook the World," 7 p.m., AMC. This week, the focus is on 1979's "China Syndrome," starring Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon and Michael Douglas. The film opened less than two weeks before the Three Mile Island accident.
