HONOLULU LAWYER SUSPENDED 5 YEARS

Honolulu attorney James Pallett has been suspended by the state Supreme Court from the practice of law for five years starting Oct. 2 for violating lawyer ethics rules in several cases, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel said yesterday.

In one criminal case, Pallett, 55, failed to appear in court in his client's behalf and in a civil case, he failed to answer an opposing party's requests for documents and failed to appear at hearings on two motions, according to the office.

The court said Pallett must pass a professional responsibility examination before he seeks to resume practicing law.
