OOOH, THAT 'ULU!
IT'S ALL ABOUT BREADFRUIT AT SATURDAY'S FESTIVAL AT MISSION HOUSES MUSEUM
A Polynesian staple surrounded by symbolism and mythology will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the 'Ulu Festival, part of the Mission Houses Museum's 27th annual Quilt Exhibit, which this year features 'ulu-themed creations.
The event at the museum includes storytelling with 'ulu legends, chants, songs and riddles, a demonstration of kapa-making with 'ulu bark, lectures and discussions on the importance of 'ulu in Hawaiian culture and — of course — quilting (talks, demonstrations, even a beginning quilt class, from 10 to 11 a.m.). The festival is free; call 531-0481 for information and schedule.
