Castle Performing Arts Center opens its 2005-06 season with Shakespeare's comedy, "The Taming of the Shrew." The battle of the sexes takes center stage as two sisters, one harsh and the other gentle, attempt to gain love and marriage. Karen Meyer directs. The cast includes Sky Okimoto as Petrucchio and Katrina Johnson in as Kate. Tickets are $10 adults and $6 students, seniors and military.

Hawai'i Pacific University Theatre opens its 2005-06 season with the musical "Aloha Rosie's," about the closing of a neighborhood hangout, Rosie's Place. Shari Lynn stars as Rosie, with Jim Tharp playing Johnny. Joyce Maltby directs. Tickets are $20 general, $14 students, seniors and military, and $3 HPU students, with discounts on Thursdays.

"Hibiki: Japanese Soul, Spirit, Sound" is the title of a concert featuring Fumiyoshi Kobayashi, from Japan, who performs on the tsugaru shamisen (three-stringed plucked lute); and the Niigata Takahashi Chikuzan Ensemble, a 16-piece shamisen orchestra. Taiko performances and bon dances are also part of the program. Admission is free.

COMEDY: NOV. 19
Stand-up comedian D.L. Hughley of the TV shows "Weekends at the DL" and "The Hughleys" returns to Honolulu for "An Evening with D.L. Hughley." Presented by the Laugh Factory, the talk-show host, actor and writer has also appeared in movies "The Brothers," "Scary Movie 3" and "Soul Plane." Tickets are $35 and $45.

The progressive alt-rock group Coheed and Cambria comes in for a landing as part of its Tanks '05 tour. Its latest release, "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 1: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness," continues the Coheed and Cambria storyline and features a taste of the '80s through such songs as "Always & Never" and "Welcome Home." Swollen Members also performs. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for this all-ages show. Tickets are $28 presale.
