TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"The Godfather" (1972), 4 and 8 p.m., Bravo; or "Erin Brockovich" (2000), 5 and 7:30 p.m., TNT; or "As Good As It Gets" (1997), 6 p.m., Lifetime. Each movie got at least one Oscar for best actor or actress. "The Godfather" topped that, being named best picture. Francis Ford Coppola turned Mario Puzo's mobster story into one of the great works in film history. Marlon Brando was named best actor. "Erin Brockovich" is a real-life story. Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic") directed crisply and Julia Roberts was Oscar-winning perfection as an impoverished legal assistant who used smarts and charm to confront power-company giants. "As Good As It Gets" was written and directed by James L. Brooks ("Terms of Endearment"). Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt won Oscars as a crabby author and an earnest waitress.
OF NOTE
"The Bernie Mac Show," 7 p.m., Fox. On the eve of the World Series, this was the only night for which Fox could guarantee in advance that there would be no baseball. As a result, it has two hours of new shows. Bernie frets about his niece's social life after she gets a driver's license.
"The Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. A classy old inn isn't nearly as much fun when you meet the ghosts of three boys who died there.
"Killer Instinct," 8 p.m., Fox. Twins, in two different places, are killed simultaneously — possibly by a guy who was already in prison.
"Hope & Faith," 8 p.m., ABC. Faith (Kelly Ripa) goes to her brother-in-law the dentist. Alas, the nitrous oxide causes her to babble some revealing things.
"Hot Properties," 8:30 p.m., ABC. The women decide to toy with Internet dating. Ava, the happily married one, finds that her lies put her in demand.
