Heard something go bump in the night? With Halloween right around the corner, we want to hear your spookiest ghost story, one you've experienced firsthand. Witnessed Pele dancing in the lava fields? Felt something suck the breath out of you? Talked to your dead grandmother lately?

Share your scary tale with Catherine E. Toth, The Honolulu Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802, or ctoth@honoluluadvertiser.com. Include your name and daytime phone number.

SKEWERING THE NEWSMAKERS, IN SONG

Is it the lure of fame? Good old-fashioned vanity? The challenge of avoiding eye contact with Gov. Linda Lingle's front-row seat? Why else, after all, would a handful of folk from Honolulu's usually competitive cadre of print, TV and radio journalists band together, get onstage and musically and humorously skew the very people they cover daily?

Easy. Cash, baby! Big-time lucre the Society of Professional Journalists' annual Gridiron Show raises for student internships with Honolulu media outlets. Thanks to this write-up, my college debt to them is now formally paid. Show up at Diamond Head Theatre at 7:30 tonight with $20 cash or a check, and catch a full-dress rehearsal of "Gridiron 2005: Return of the Gridi." Otherwise, virtually sold-out shows run Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Call 550-8457.

FINAL WORD

"I started drinking when I was 14, so I feel like I had my fill. I used hypnosis to quit and I haven't had a drink in 2 1/2 years. Of course, sometimes I cluck like a chicken involuntarily."

Aaron Eckhart | quoted in Best Life magazine

Correction: Call 550-8457 for ticket information on "Gridiron 2005: Return of the Gridi." An incorrect phone number was listed in a previous version of this story.
