Team Hawai'i will compete in the Arizona Senior Fall Classic in Peoria, Ariz., this weekend.
The baseball showcase features club teams with high school players from mostly Western states. Pro scouts and college coaches will be attending the games, which will be played at the Peoria Sports Complex, the spring training quarters of the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners. Wood or wood composite bats are used in the games.
Team Hawai'i, coached by Duane and David Eldredge and Todd Koishigawa, has 23 Hawai'i high school players: 21 seniors and two juniors.
Two other Hawai'i players will be in the classic, but playing for a California-based team. Punahou designated hitter Bucky Aona and Mid-Pacific shortstop Adam Tamashiro will play for ABD Red, which is coached by Mike Spiers, father of University of Hawai'i shortstop Joe Spiers.
Spiers had Hawai'i players in past years. Spiers also has Kamehameha's Waylen Sing Chow on another team for the Junior Fall Classic later this month.
Team Hawai'i will play one game Friday and two games each on Saturday and Sunday.
