Three from Hawai'i advance at Junior Golf Classic

Hawai'i's Stephanie Kono, Kimberly Kim and Tadd Fujikawa advanced to today's match play at the AJGA Polo Junior Golf Classic in Sea Island, Ga.

Kono shot a 2-over 74 yesterday and finished tied for third at 145 in stroke play. In-Kyung Kim of Hilton Head Island, S.C., was medalist at 75-143. Kim shot 80—157 and was tied for 29th. The top 32 golfers advanced.

In the boys' tournament, Tadd Fujikawa shot an 8-over-par 78 and finished tied for 22nd. Ji Moon of Lake Mary, Fla., was medalist at 69—141.


VOLLEYBALL

U.S. WOMEN TAKE SILVER

Team USA swept host Japan to take the silver medal at the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup Sunday at Nagoya Rainbow Hall.

Former Nebraska All-American Nancy Metcalf scored a match-high 21 points to lead four players in double figures as the United States won, 28-26, 25-23, 25-16, to finish with a 4-1 record.

Former Rainbow Wahine Therese Crawford scored 11 points. The U.S. setters were Honolulu's Robyn Ah Mow-Santos and Lindsey Berg.

The U.S. men opened play in their Grand Champions Cup yesterday in Nagano, falling to Brazil 27-25, 22-25, 25-19, 26-24.

Honolulu's Clay Stanley scored a match-high 19 points.


RUNNING

TURKEY TROT TOMORROW

The Honolulu Marathon Clinic will host the 31st annual Turkey Trot tomorrow at the Kapi'olani Park bandstand.

Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m., with the race to follow at 7:30 a.m. Cost is $3.

The event is a 10-mile race, with prizes for those who finish the closest to their predicted finishing time. Watches and headphones are not allowed for the race.
