UH-Hilo drops hoops opener on road, 90-77

The No. 21-ranked University of Hawai'i-Hilo men's basketball team fell to host Chico State, 90-77, despite a game-high 25 points from Justin Griffin.
Chico State had five players in double-figures, led by Pat Galos and Olajuwon Jones who both scored 15.
Chico State hit 15 of 35 3-point attempts, while Hilo was 0 of 5.
Alex Graham scored 17 points, and Justin Dobson and Rocky Jorgenson each added 10 for the Vulcans.
It was the season opener for both teams.
TENNIS
UH TEAMMATES LOSE
University of Hawai'i teammates Ryan Sceats and Jarrod Diepraam lost their first-round doubles match last night in the Honolulu Futures. The USTA Pro Circuit event is being played at the University of Hawai'i.
Sceats, a senior from Australia, and Diepraam, a senior from South Africa, fell to Americans Jamie Hunt and Shane Laporte, 6-2, 6-2.
Honolulu's Chris Lam also fell in the first round of doubles. He and partner Matthew Hanlin lost to Italy's Marco Crugnola and Stefano Innani, 6-4, 6-4.
Former Hawai'i Pacific player Jan Tribler, from Finland, lost in singles to Alex Clayton, 6-1, 6-4. Tribler earned a spot in the main draw by winning the state sectionals earlier this year.
Lam, Sceats and UH freshman Sascha Heinemann open singles play today.
BASEBALL
CLINIC SET FOR NOV. 25-27
The second annual Pitchers & Catchers Camp will be held Nov. 25 to 27 at Kaimuki High School baseball field.
Cal State Fullerton pitching coach Ted Silva, UC Irvine catching coach Chad Baum and New York Yankees minor league catcher P.J. Pilittere, a former Cal State Fullerton star, will conduct the clinic. Cost is $225.
There also will be a coaches clinch Nov. 25 at the Best Western Plaza Hotel. Cost is $10 presale and $15 at the door.
