McLachlin, Cotner in PGA Q-School

Hawai'i's Parker McLachlin and Keoke Cotner both made it out of the PGA Tour Qualifying School Second Stage yesterday. McLachlin needed a birdie on the final hole to advance, while Cotner made it by two shots.
Both will play in the final stage, Nov. 30 to Dec. 5 on the Panther Lake and Crooked Cat courses at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla. Those who finish in the top 30 there receive tour cards for the next year. The rest of the field receives some kind of status on the Nationwide Tour, which Cotner has been playing.
McLachlin, a Punahou graduate, closed with a 1-over-par 73 for a share of 19th place with six others. His even-par 288 total was the cut line for advancing. McLachlin overcame four straight bogeys mid-round, rallying for birdies on the 12th, 14th and 18th at Deerwood Golf Club, in Kingwood, Texas.
Cotner, a Kamehameha Schools graduate, finished with an even-par 72, at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas. That gave him a 288 total. Those who finished at 290 or better advanced.
Punahou graduate Jim Seki opens play in the second stage Wednesday.
TANOUE LEADS AMATOUR
Shawn Tanoue shot a 1-under 70 yesterday to take a one-shot lead in the Honolulu Country Club Tour Championship.
Chris De Almeida shot 71, and Shannon Tanoue and Michael Miguel opened with 72s in the Amatour Hawai'i event.

HILO BEATS CHAMINADE
Taina Savage had 16 kills and 20 digs as Hawai'i-Hilo swept Chaminade, 30-18, 30-26, 30-25, last night in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match at the UHH Gymnasium.
Rose Ramsey added nine kills and took part in eight blocks and Kahealani Silva added 19 digs for the Vulcans (14-11, 5-7 PacWest).
Trina Kauliakamoa had 13 kills and 16 digs, Lila Sapolu added 12 kills and Annie Lanoza 24 digs for the Silverswords (9-16, 0-12).
JUDO
TERAO TRIUMPHS
Honolulu's David Terao won the 31-kilogram (68-pound)-and-under division for 11- and 12-year-olds at the Pan American Infantil Championships on Friday in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Terao was named Outstanding U.S. Male Player of the Tournament.
Wahiawa's Ren Hirokawa finished fifth in the 38-kilogram (84-pound)-and-under division for ages 11-12.
Honolulu's Risha Mishima placed second in the the 48-kilogram (106-pound)-and-under division for 13- and 14-year-olds.
All three represented Team USA and are from Shobukan Judo Club of Honolulu.

LIU WINS WAHINE TITLE
Jing Jing Liu defeated Brigham Young-Hawai'i teammate Julia Ustyezhanina, 6-4, 3-3 (retired), in the A flight championship of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational yesterday at Central O'ahu Regional Park.
In other finals, Arizona's Tina Razloznik defeated San Diego State's Sisse Nielsen, 6-2, 6-4, for the B flight championship, and the top-seeded Aztecs team of Nielsen and Eliska Krausova beat Arizona's Kasia Jakolew and Jesse Rochefort, 8-5, for the doubles crown.
