No. 19 BYUH tops No. 2 HPU

Yu Chuan Weng hammered a match-high 26 kills as No. 19 Brigham Young-Hawai'i rallied past No. 2 Hawai'i Pacific last night in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match at Blaisdell Arena.
Lilly Tufuga added 10 kills, and Heitiare Wallace had 22 digs to help the Seasiders prevail, 26-30, 12-30, 30-24, 30-18, 15-13, in the 2-hour, 25-minute match.
LeeAnn Mapu had 49 assists as BYUH improved to 19-4 overall and 8-3 in the PacWest.
Barbara Martin had 21 kills and 10 digs, and took part in nine blocks for the Sea Warriors (22-2, 10-1). Flavia Brakling added 18 kills and 15 digs, Danie Hout contributed 13 kills and 11 digs, and Paula Koikopoulos had 13 kills for HPU. Vera Oliveira chipped in 54 assists and 11 digs.
Neither team hit very well, with BYUH finishing with a .118 percentage and HPU .159.
The Seasiders trailed 12-8 in the fifth game before tying the score at 12. Brakling's kill gave HPU a 13-12 lead, but a hitting error tied the score. Weng got her 26th kill to make it 14-13, then teamed on a block for match point.
