TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Lost," 8 p.m., ABC. This show finally returns to new episodes. A tough band captured the men on the failed raft voyage, but they weren't "the others." They're the apparent survivors from the back of the plane. Now they're on a forced march back to the camp. That's hard on injured Sawyer, who is crumbling physically. Meanwhile, Michael has broken away to try to find his son. And flashbacks tell us about Shannon, the self-centered beauty, skillfully played by Maggie Grace.

"The Kennedy Center Presents: The Mark Twain Prize," 9 p.m., PBS. In many tribute shows, the highlight comes from Steve Martin. Now it's Martin's turn to be the honoree; he's the eighth winner of this annual comedy award. That will bring together Larry David, Martin Short, Tom Hanks, Eric Idle, Dave Barry, Carl Reiner and Lily Tomlin.

OF NOTE

"E-Ring," 7 p.m., NBC. Here's the second half of a story that started last week, when J.T. learned that his girlfriend, Angie, was in trouble. Now he's figured out who attacked her; he faces enemies he and Angie fought years ago.

"The George Lopez Show," 7 p.m., ABC. George's son sees a therapist.

"Pioneers of Primetime," 8 p.m., PBS. It was a savvy idea, to gather interviews with the people whose work in vaudeville, radio and early television paved the way for modern viewers. Posthumously, we can catch the views of Bob Hope, Milton Berle, Red Skelton and more; others, including Sid Caesar and Rose Marie, remain alive and vibrant. The only flaw is that the show is relatively slow and flat. It lacks the sharp point of, for instance, an "American Masters."

"The Apprentice: Martha Stewart," 8 p.m., NBC. The eight remaining contestants pitch products on QVC.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. An unwed mother is attacked and her baby stolen. A crazy person or deeper plot?

"Invasion," 9 p.m., ABC. Larkin, the TV reporter, is injured in a vehicle accident while searching for secrets. A suspicious-seeming stranger comes to the rescue.
