Louis Hoopaii III put down 11 kills to lead Hana over Honoka'a, 25-16, 25-19, in yesterday's opening round of the HHSAA Boys State Division II Volleyball Championships at Punahou School.
Hana, the Maui Interscholastic League Division II champion, will face No. 4 seed Kapa'a of the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation in the first of four quarterfinal matchups today at 3:30 p.m.
Hana had 23 kills to Hono-ka'a's 13. Honoka'a, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation's No. 3 seed, was held to a negative .069 hitting percentage. Komokana Fernandez led Honoka'a with six kills and four blocks.
Harold Kiawi had five blocks for Hana.
Honoka'a plays Ka'u in consolation play at 2 p.m. today.
Seabury Hall def. Waialua: Tye Perdido had 12 kills and four digs and the Spartans won, 25-16, 25-19. Seabury Hall (MIL) will play No. 2 seed Hilo (BIIF) today at 5 p.m.
'Aiea def. Ka'u: Pili Taitin had 17 kills and Na Ali'i won, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17. 'Aiea, of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association, faces No. 1 seed Hawai'i Baptist, of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, tonight at 8.
Mid-Pacific def. Laupahoehoe: Reese Haine had 10 kills and Bayly Buck had 11 digs as the Owls won, 25-16, 27-25. Mid-Pacific (OIA) plays No. 3 seed Waipahu (OIA) tonight at 6:30.
