The Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i has received $10 million for the new Cancer Research Facility and Outpatient Treatment Clinic in Kaka'ako, the first federal money committed to the center's construction.
The money was allocated by the omnibus appropriations bill signed into law in December 2004 and was secured through the efforts of U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye and other members of the Hawai'i congressional delegation.
The University of Hawai'i Board of Regents has selected developer Townsend Capital Investment LLC to develop, design and build the $100 million facility next to the new UH John A. Burns School of Medicine in Kaka'ako. Planning meetings have been held with the center to create a state-of-the-art research facility and treatment clinic.
The treatment center will offer cancer care to Hawai'i patients statewide.
