Other driver still sought in fatal crash

By David Waite

Police are still seeking information about a dark-colored vehicle that may have been racing with a car that drove off the Pali Highway early Wednesday morning, killing its driver.

Police believe Terance D. "Toby" Lee of Maunawili was racing with another driver when his 2004 Nissan 350Z left one of the two Kailua-bound lanes just makai of the second of the two Pali tunnels and tumbled down the embankment about 1:40 a.m. The late-model sports car fell 40 feet to a ravine below.

Public records show Lee was issued four speeding tickets from 1999 to 2005. The dates were:

  • August 1996: 49 mph in a 25 mph zone.

  • December 2002: 75 mph in 45 mph zone.

  • December 2003: 53 mph in a 35 mph zone.

  • June 2005: 75 in a 45 mph zone.

Lee's most recent appearance in traffic court came on Dec. 15 when he was convicted of crossing a double solid yellow line, according to District Court records.

Police have asked that anyone with information about a vehicle that Lee may have been racing come forward and provide information.
