Police have increased their patrols in Mililani's lower town after a rash of burglaries during the past six weeks hit 85 homes on 50 different streets.

Residents have been asked to report any suspicious activity, since most of the burglaries occurred during the day.

Police said they think other cases may have gone unreported. Detective Randall Borges, the lead investigator in the Mililani burglaries, said residents should call 911 even if they think it may be unimportant.

Statistics for police District 2, which includes the communities of Mililani, Kunia, Wahiawa, Whitmore, Waialua and Hale'iwa, show just 744 burglaries for all of last year, making the recent rash even more noteworthy.

During the holidays, residents should be even more alert to suspicious activities because burglars often hit homes looking for Christmas gifts and cash.

Nearly all the break-ins occurred by removal of glass louvers, police said.

Anyone with information may call Borges at the Wahiawa police station, 621-8442.
