A TREAT FOR THE EYES

A mini replica of the historic Moana hotel is part of the German Gingerbread Village designed and created by executive chef Ralf Bauer, who, along with executive sous chefs Richard Lancaster and Kahau Manzo, pantry chef Ami Tangpalan and the engineering and stewarding departments, put in about 160 hours into their holiday creation. All are welcome to view the village, which required 20 pounds of white chocolate, 28 sheets of gingerbread and 75 gallons of icing.

Through Jan. 2 / Sheraton Moana Surfrider / Free admission / 922-3111

While you're in Waikiki, head for the nearby Pacific Beach Hotel, where another gingerbread village is in residence. Created by a six-student team from Kapi'olani Community College's Culinary Institute of the Pacific, the village is a winter wonderland that also features a yesteryear scene of Aloha Tower and Waikiki. Admission is free; it's open through Christmas Day.
