You thought paddling across the Kaiwi Channel in the Moloka'i-to-O'ahu event was tough?

Try filming the event.

The efforts of two Hawai'i companies will be rewarded and on display tomorrow when NBC (channel 8) telecasts the 2005 men's Moloka'i Hoe held this past October.

The one-hour telecast begins at 10 a.m.

It will feature videography from Maka'ike pictures, a local company that has some of the top local water videographers, such as Mike Stewart, and still-water photography from www.rebelshots.com.

"Taking these still photos in the water was the hardest, most demanding task I've ever done," said Mark Miyoshi, owner of www.rebelshots.com and an ocean enthusiast who paddled the Moloka'i event years ago.

Miyoshi said about 3,000 still pictures were taken. Pictures and filming were taken while on a Jetski or while sitting on a trailing sled that was attached to the Jetski.

He also said photographers drove the Jetskis to Moloka'i either the night before or on the day of the event. Riding to Moloka'i against the wind took about "3-4 hours," Miyoshi said.

Lanikai won the 41-mile Moloka'i-to-O'ahu event in 5 hours and 17 minutes.
